MAC address security

To keep security at the highest level we implement Layer 2 MAC addresses filtering at all INX-ZA peering fabris.  This is to help prevent unauthorised traffic from entering the Internet exchange. Each regular peering port/bundle is restricted to a single MAC address and this is statically locked down to the respective participant's port.  Additionally, MAC address learning is disabled on each port, meaning we will not learn, not propagate a new MAC address if the old one becomes unavailable.

If you require the MAC on your port to change please email ops@inx.net.za to schedule the time the change will take place and our team will be on standby to perform the change.

If you know the MAC address upfront, you can simply log a ticket with hte new MAC address asking for us to add the new MAC.  You can then proceed with your change at your pre-determined time, and our team will contact you regarding removal of the old mac address.
